Stop smoking and vaping
Online stop smoking hypnotherapy
You've decided to stop. Hypnotherapy can back up that decision and loosen the habit's grip, in one focused two-hour online session, from the home where most of your cigarettes are smoked.

How hypnotherapy helps you stop smoking
Hypnotherapy can be used alongside your own motivation to support you as you stop smoking. A 2025 review of the research found that most studies of hypnosis for quitting reported positive results (Ekanayake & Elkins, 2025). The 2019 Cochrane review was more cautious, finding not yet enough high-quality evidence to say hypnotherapy beats other kinds of stop-smoking support (Barnes et al., 2019).
In my experience the deciding factor is you. If you genuinely want to stop, I'll be delighted to help you do it. Nobody was born a smoker: the cigarette with the first coffee, after a meal, on the phone, when things get tense, were all learned one by one. Those links fire before you've really thought about it, and they are what we work on.
What we work on
- Your smoking, specifically: when you smoke, what each cigarette does for you, and what tripped you up last time
- Unhooking the triggers from the automatic reach for a cigarette or vape
- Replacing, not just removing: whatever smoking gave you, such as a pause or a reward, gets a better substitute
- Rehearsing life as a non-smoker in the moments you would normally light up
- Cravings and stress in the weeks after, with a self-hypnosis technique you keep
Why online works especially well for stopping smoking
Most smoking is woven into home life: the back door, the kitchen window, the sofa in the evening. When we work online you are sitting right in the middle of those cues, so we can rehearse the new response in the very place it needs to work. After an in-person session, plenty of people have walked out of the building and straight past a newsagent. Online, there is no journey home, no smoking area outside, just you in your own space as a non-smoker.
Clients often tell me they relax more deeply at home than they would in a clinic, and with my voice close in their headphones the session feels personal and private. Two hours is a long appointment; doing it from your own chair makes it easy.
What the session looks like
- A free consultation. 15–30 minutes by phone or video, so you can check you are ready and ask anything.
- One double session of 2 hours. By Microsoft Teams or Zoom. There's no need to cut down beforehand.
- The first part: we go through your smoking in detail, your triggers, your reasons and what stopping will give you.
- The second part: hypnosis to loosen the habit, rehearse being a non-smoker, and give you self-hypnosis for any cravings that follow.
The same approach works for vaping, which can be just as sticky because a vape never runs out the way a cigarette does. See how online sessions work for the practical side.
Questions about stopping smoking online
Should I have cigarettes in the house during the session?
That's up to you, and we'll talk about it at the consultation. Many people like to clear them out beforehand as a statement of intent. Either way, the session is about how you respond to them, not about hiding them.
How many sessions will I need?
Stopping smoking is one double session of 2 hours. Your own motivation matters most: hypnotherapy works with you, not on you.
Can I use nicotine replacement or NHS support as well?
Yes. Free NHS Stop Smoking Services offer advice and stop-smoking aids, and some people use them alongside hypnotherapy. Your GP or pharmacist can point you to your local service.
Two hours on a video call sounds like a lot. Is it?
It goes quickly. We take it at a comfortable pace, you can have water to hand, and much of the second hour is spent relaxing with your eyes closed. Make sure your device is plugged in before we start.
